Sloan and Canasta @ Double Door

Filed under: Open — cinchel @ 5:12 am

What a day, as soon as I got home I had to quickly eat and off we went. At 7pm we went and saw one of friends play a couple of fiddle songs in a fiddling competition, which was nice except for all the kids that were all running around. There were a couple a really good groups, one a duo both on fiddles and one a 3-peice on fiddle/ukulele/banjo. It was outside and the air was just perfect if not a touch on the cool side once the sun started going down. We left as soon as Michelle finished her 2 songs, but we got a call from her mentioning that she made it to the finals.

It was about 9:10pm when we left that but we were still able to make it to the Double Door with plenty of time. Even with a bit of a line at the door the space in side was not to crowded and we were able to secure a great spot on the floor. Canasta opened and played a great set. They were just as excited to be opening as we were to be seeing Sloan. Due to lack of time they had to cut the Major Tom cover, but even so it was still a great set. The 2 new songs sounded even tighter and the harmonies were perfect.

Sloan came out and just rocked. They opened with Losing California setting the tone for a set full of the hits and tons of singing along. And sing we did, my voice is still a bit sore today. I was really happy to be able to see them in such a small venue, but wished that they could have the draw to play the metro again. They really deserve it. The only down point of the evening was Jay trying one song and his voice just not making it and so they skiped his other song later on. The 2 new songs that are on the A-sides win comp sounded great, hopefully they are working on a full length to follow it up. They didnt play I am the Cancer or G turns to D, but it was still a nice 1 and 45 minute set. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
