Well I decided to make mp3’s (lame -V0) of the tracks that I compiled for that last post. I will now make a post for each “release” (ha!). I am going to us both those flash based players (those slider things) as well as post links to each mp3. I found out that even though my ipod Touch doesnt play flash players if I click on a link to an mp3 it will load it up and play that over the wifi. So now the posts are multi-webbrowser happy. Enjoy

More CD-r’s…maybe to many

Yeah I am totally going through a must get things organized and compiled phase. I have over 3 years of recordings I just noticed. It was neat to listen to things I created way back in early 2006. Going through it all I was able to sort out a few themes. So I compiled 4 CD-r’s where the tracks contained are somewhat related. I am calling them the Core Dump Series because I have always felt that my recordings were kinda like an audio dump of my brain crashing. The 4 themes are:
1) Acc.Dump
This is 4 tracks composed using a very scrappy acoustic guitar. The neck is kinda bowed and its missing strings and not tuned to any standard tuning. With it I teased out a few melodic lines and looped them with Ableton Live. On one of the tracks you can hear water running, which happened because I was recording at the same time Kcat was drawing water for a bath. I tried to incorporate the sound into that piece and I think it works well.
4-tracks
26minutes

2)Plogue.Dump
This is also only 4 tracks but one of them clocks in at 30 minutes! The connection here, even though they are mostly drone tracks (and there is a CD-r of just drone) these were all created using Plogue-Bidule , which is a peice of software that allows for the stringing together of may VST plugins. Of course the first thing I did with it is string 16-mulit-tap delays together. They are set up in 4 parallel groups of 4 in serial and each mulit-tap delay has 5 delay sections. In all its a virtual wall of guitars. Very choral sounding. I believe I have put up a recording on my myspace called “Requiem” that was a section of the first peice. I have performed this live once and called it “Requiem for Lee Hazelwood” as he had just passed a few days before.
4-tracks
1 hr 6 minutes

3)2006/7.Dump
This is the most random collection and the one with the most structure. It starts with one of the first things I did when I got Ableton Live, a piece that contains a sample from a RJD2 record. This cd-r also contains a piece I wrote for the Chicago Critical Mass 10th aniversary ride (CCMX). I have not heard it played outside yet but would love to. The closing track contains a sample from one of my favorite short films ever Are you the Favorite Person of Anybody? by Miranda July. I have since started cataloging various movie scenes/monologues that I want to score.
7-tracks
50 minutes

4)Drone.Dump
I separated out these drone tracks from the plogue set not only because they weren’t created with plogue but also because they overall sound is a slightly different. There is a piece where I didn’t touch the guitar strings at all. A few of these were ideas for a NYT blog post by Glenn Branca called In search of the lost chords . I didnt submit any of these to that contest, but maybe I should have as the ones that were chosen were lame and overly academic. The last track was posted on the myspace as “F#ø” (F sharp half-diminished) which is the chord that the guitar was tuned to for the peice (thanks goes to my brother quartertonality for figuring out the name of that chord)
5-tracks
49 minutes

Same idea as the previous post, I want you to listen to these as they are compiled and possible not infront of a computer. I may post a zip file for each cd-r if you want to listen first before sending your address. Again, FREE and with a bit of water color art work. whee!

Julie and Phil @ AV-aerie

Filed under: Music, Uncategorized — cinchel @ 7:27 am
In tribute to a great venue going through a bit of Chicago-style zoning politics (ie bullshit). Here is one of my favorite shows that I saw there. this was later (november-ish?) of last year. It was cold out side and the parachute was up so the venue isnt to echoey. We sat on the floor. Everyone was perfectly quiet. Enjoy

first rhodes peice..

Not all that exciting. I still have a lot of work to do to really think about how I want to use this thing. This piece isnt the first thing i have done on it but its the first i recorded. Its a solo one track, using my guitar effects just for delay and looping. I do enjoy the percussiveness of a piano and the extra range it gives me over the guitar.

This was recorded straight into the mbox, no mic’ing the rhodes amp because it was late and I was tired. I think because of that there is a lot of noise that comes in when the piece get quiet.

enjoy
