SPCTV CS2: Cinchel drone.dump
This write-up here says way more nice things than I could.
To bore you, on a technical level the recordings that make up the substance of this release come from recordings done between 2006 and 2008. All done at the apartment we were living in at the time which had a really neat, and small, walk-in closet. It was going to be a darkroom but as digital photography consumed the Mrs it became an actual closet which would house my Fender Bassman 10 and other guitar ephemera. Most of the tracks are single take with minimal post editing. I get into phases where I try to test myself with simple ideas like tuning the guitar to an opening tuning and get it to gently feedback and then slowly change the tuning. I have always thought about creating an hour long piece but it has always been difficult to focus for that long, so it was interesting to put this together and realize that over 3 years I had inadvertently done it.
So, how do you get ahold of one of these fine cassettes. Well I am not sure (actually not really comfortable that is..):
1) If you live in Chicago it would be really cool if you went to reckless (and possibly permanent records …i am still not sure if they will have any) and grabbed it. I only say this not because I want you to buy my cassette there because it would be cool for me to say, but because I want to let these places know we really appreciate the counter space and the local support. If they decide to carry them, they wont have them until after March 2nd 2010 (as the box is still sitting on my dinning room table).
2) If you live in Chicago and know me say hi. I will prob have a tape or 2 in my bag most of the time.
3) Paypal me cinchel AT gmail DOT com .. like $6..and i will ship it to you ..anywhere in the world..sure…seriously.
4) There is talk of some other shops maybe getting a few copies (places like http://www.aquariusrecords.org/ and http://www.othermusic.com/ ..when I know more definite places I will post links) So if you live near those places hit them up, show some love.
5) There is talk of a “release” show in April with Chicago band Implodes and my friend Travis Bird . This tape will be available at that show with the possibility of another recording also being available (CDR or another tape).
What you get. One cassette with a handpainted j-card, hand numbered. My eternal gratitude and 60min of music.
